“Despite a difficult economic climate worldwide, we feel quite positive about the new season”, says the hotel manager.

The Hotel Fuerte Grazalama, situated in a nature reserve in the Cadiz sierra, has reopened for the new tourist season. With it comes the creation of 25 new jobs in the area, according to the hotel manager, Inmaculada Medinilla. After the winter break, Medinilla welcomes the season with “renewed enthusiasm which, along with the good weather, will ensure a successful forthcoming Holy Week”.

Medinilla has said that ”although the economic climate worldwide is difficult, we feel positive about things as occupancy is good and figures are encouraging”. The hotel manager has assured that “everything is ready to receive tourists who appreciate the mountains as they will find Fuerte Grazalemal is the ideal place to stay, situated as it is in a charming rural environment in one of the most beautiful white villages of Andalusia”.

The hotel has reopened following the break after Christmas and the time has been used to carry out maintenance and improvement works on its facilities. Additionally, the Fuerte Hoteles chain, which the hotel belongs to, has decided to introduce new products and services in its rural hotel; these include a special gluten-free menu or the possibility of a Late Check Out. As in previous seasons, it will offer its Fuerte Experiencias, thanks to which guests can visit the hotel farm or go trekking through woodlands of cork and pine forests.

The possibilities on offer every year at the hotel Fuerte Grazalema are unique as its situation in the Parque Natural de la Sierra de Grazalema (Sierra Grazalema Nature Reserve) allows easy access to the pine forest where visitors can see trees that can reach 30 metres high and date back to the Tertiary Period, trout rivers in the surrounding villages such as El Bosque, hiking routes and public footpaths in pine forests and “laurisilva” Woodland accompanied by guides who will explain the area’s nature and history, kayaking and abseiling, caving, mountain biking, etc. In fact, it is the chance to try new experiences in the countryside.

Local information

Grazalema, despite being situated in southern Andalusia and enjoying a temperate climate, has one of the highest rainfalls in Spain. As a result, the ecosystem that surrounds the hotel is unique to Spain and difficult to find in any other part of the world.

But it is not just nature which is interesting in the Sierra de Grazalema. It’s also its history which has known keys moments in the Arab conquest and Reconquista of Spain, together with having been the home of many highwaymen during the 19th century which make this beautiful part of the Cadiz sierra even more interesting.

The reopening of the Fuerte Grazalema means there are now five hotels belonging to the Fuerte Hoteles chain which are now open. These include Fuerte Conil, Fuerte Miramar and Fuerte Marballa and the Fuerte Calaceite apartments; the last two remain open all year round.

Fuerte Hoteles, which for over 50 years has been supporting sustainable tourism, is a hotel chain with headquarters in Marbella with seven four-star hotels situated in Marbella, Torrox, Estepona, Conil de la Frontera, Grazalema and El Rompido.
