Fuerte Hotels presents ICAN Triathlon Contest in Marbella with record of attendees.

Next 15th April Marbella will welcome the 2012 ICAN Triathlon Contest with more than 1400 triathletes

The sports councillor of the Marbella Town Council, Federico Vallés (in the middle of the photograph) has presented the event altogether with ICAN Triathlon chairman, Sunil Bhardwaj, and Fuerte Hoteles Communication and Enviromental Policy manager, Joaquín Pineda.

The contest will take place next 15th April 2012 in a circuit designed for this purpose around Puerto Banús and with the attendance of more than 1400 Spanish and foreing athletes -almost triple than the previous year. For Joaquin Pineda, Fuerte Hoteles support to ICAN Triathlon is “a further way of supporting responsible tourism, healthy activities and especially to promote Marbella as a destination that offers much more than sun and sand”.

Participants from around the world

Most of the participants are Spanish triathletes, although the test will feature athletes from Denmark, England, Brazil, USA, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Uruguay, Portugal, France and Canada among other countries, attract international media to cover the event.

This year there will be two types: ‘Half ICAN’, with 1.9 miles of swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km race walk, and the ‘ICAN 62’, which will be 1.9 km swim, 50 km bike and 10 km run. The event will run from 08.00 to 16.00. The start of the event will take place at Avenida de las Naciones Unidas, starting with swimming, whose starting point is the beach of Puerto Banus in the same location and will consist of swimming around a triangular circuit.

The event will continue the cycling test that will run over the highway AP7 to Estepona arriving to Avenida de las Naciones Unidas, while the third test, the run will exit from this avenue and run along the promenade of Marbella. Parallel to the games, the Saturday, April 14th, there will be a ‘Pasta Party’ in Hotel Fuerte Marbella, which also will host 12th to 14th April Trishow ICAN fair, from 10.00 to 20.00, with exhibitors’ tents of different sports brands.

El próximo día 15 de abril tendrá lugar el circuito que se habilitará en los alrededores de Puerto Banús y que contará con la participación de unos 1.400 atletas nacionales e internacionales, casi el triple que el año pasado. Para Joaquín Pineda, el apoyo de Fuerte Hoteles a ICAN Triatlón es “una acción más de apoyo al turismo responsable, a las actividades saludables y sobre todo a la promoción de Marbella como un destino que ofrece mucho más que sol y playa”.

Participantes de todo el mundo

La mayoría de los participantes son triatletas españoles, aunque la prueba contará con la presencia de deportistas procedentes de Dinamarca, Inglaterra, Brasil, Estados Unidos, Irlanda, Alemania, Bélgica, Holanda, Uruguay, Portugal, Francia y Canadá, entre otros países, que atraerán a medios de comunicación internacionales para cubrir el evento.

Este año habrá dos modalidades: ‘Half Ican’, con 1,9 kilómetros de natación, 90 km de ciclismo y 21 km de carrera a pie; y el ‘Ican 62’, que serán 1,9 km de natación, 50 km en bicicleta y 10 km de carrera. El evento se desarrollará desde las 08.00 a las 16.00 horas, teniendo lugar las salidas de las pruebas desde la avenida de las Naciones Unidas, comenzando con natación, cuyo punto de partida será la playa de Puerto Banús en ese mismo enclave y consistirá en una vuelta al circuito triangular.

Le seguirá la prueba de ciclismo que transcurrirá por la AP7 dirección Estepona con llegada también a la avenida de las Naciones Unidas; mientras que la tercera prueba, la carrera a pie, saldrá desde dicha avenida y discurrirá por el Paseo Marítimo de Marbella. Paralelamente a la cita deportiva, el sábado, 14 de abril, se celebrará una ‘Pasta Party’ en el hotel Fuerte Marbella, que también acogerá, del 12 al 14 de abril, la feria ICAN-Trishow, desde las 10.00 a las 20.00 horas, con expositores y carpas de diferentes marcas deportivas.
