The Andalucian hotel group joined WWF’s Earth Hour for another year, which is the largest civilian mobilisation campaign in defence of the environment to date. Thousands of citizens, businesses, cities and organisations around the world mark a blackout on the 29th of March from 20:30 to 21:30 in an effort to combat climate change. Under the slogan ‘Turn Off The Light, Illuminates the Planet” and ‘Use your power to protect the planet’, the hotel group joins more than 100 companies and 170 cities for one hour, turning off the lights at some of the most famous monuments, including Malaga, which will leave the Cathedral and Alcazaba dark.
For Fuerte Hoteles, establishments including the Fuerte Marbella, the Conil Fuerte Costa Luz, the Fuerte Grazalema, Amare Marbella Beach Hotel and Apartamentos Olée Holiday Rentals (Torrox) turn off the lights in favour of candles.
“Our guests will experience a charming night lit by candles, while we are raising awareness for everyone about the importance of saving energy,” said José Luque, CEO of the hotel group.
Luque stressed that this night was not a “single event” for Fuerte Hoteles, as energy sustainability is a vital part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mission, allowing the group to achieve energy savings of 25% for propane consumption, 21% for electricity, 19% water and 9% for oil. The Marbella-based hotel group is the only Andalucian hotel group to present a study of this nature.
